Boarding Program

Overview

Boarding students live in a calm, structured environment guided by daily Buddhist practice. To support focus and healthy routines, personal television, computer, and phone use is limited. Students participate in required religious services, community service, and monastery events such as Honoring Elders Day and Cherishing Youth Day.

Dorm rooms typically house one to two students and include a private bathroom. Seniors receive priority for single rooms. Double rooms are generally reserved for juniors and elementary students on a case-by-case basis.

Community & Campus Life

Our residential community includes both international and domestic students, creating a welcoming home-away-from-home environment. Students interact daily in English and often Chinese, building language exposure and cultural understanding.

Approximately 40 percent of our faculty and staff live on campus and serve as dorm supervisors. They support students throughout daily life, including study routines, community service, meal preparation, and mentorship.

Goals & Expectations

The boarding program supports students in developing independence, academic discipline, and strong work habits. Boarding students are encouraged to:

  • Maintain a pure vegetarian diet and practice frugality

  • Learn and apply Buddhist teachings and ethics in daily life

  • Demonstrate respect, trustworthiness, selflessness, and kindness

  • Practice meditation to build focus, awareness, and reflection

  • Understand Buddhist practice as a way of life, not only a course of study
